Default Direct Debit

Sorry, completely off topic, but can someone help?

I have been overcharged £183 on a direct debit and have claimed through the halifax under the direct debit guarantee. How long should you wait for the funds to appear in your account? I would have thought a full and immediate refund under the guarantee would mean funds are in your account straight away - however not according to the halifax.

The guy in branch told me - immediate
the guy in the branches boss told me - overnight
the woman on telephone banking told me 10-14 days
the other woman on telephone banking told me - 48 hours, but excluding weekends!

Anyone have any experience of this? SHould the funds not be in my account tomorrow I am calling BACS and complaining

Thanks in advance and sorry about the off-topic post.

If you filled in an indemnity claim the bank pays the funds directly to your account from their ledger account.
You would have signed the documents stipulating that the funds clear to your account immediately but the creditor can rebuke the claim if the amount requested was part of your agreement with the company.

If the funds aren't in your account contact both the branch and the comany.
