Well, I now have the LBA letter ready to post. I received an interim offer of £1342 (odd number!), approximately half of the original claim. The claim has now risen to juxt under £3k. I'm happy to say that I'm posting this letter in the Halifax's own SAE (1st class) that they expected me to use to accept their offer in which I refute any future or further claim (as well as offering them my 1st born child and use of all my organs - whether I'm alive or dead). I am a generous chap and will give the bank 14 days from Friday (when they should receive the letter) until action will be taken.

Power to all fellow claimants - I feel bilious every time the banks' profits are in the news. Bankers - perfect rhyming slang!

Well I received reply from Halifax. They "confirm" that they will not refund all the charges incurred and that future charges will stand and that they do reserve the right to close my account. If unhappy, they refer me to the Financial ombudsman... In that case, I intend to commence legal action on Friday. Any suggestions etc. I would be most grateful. Neil

	The Financial Ombudsman Service For the most part, don't bother. The Ombudsman is an industry arranged service which is under-resourced, takes too long, lacks clear transparency. You have no idea what evidence the FOS has received from the bank or how your complain has really been handled. The FOS is the preferred complaints route for the banking industry. The county court is to be preferred by consumers for its speed, openness, the quality of its awards and also because it will award 8% interest on top of any damages won by you. The Ombudsman should normally be used to solving little technical difficulties or customer service problems which you have expereinced with your bank.

You have two options : filing through mcol (money claim online) or through your local county court, depends on which is more suitable to your needs. There are templates for both ways in the library, make sure you have everything , meaning figures dates etc correct before submitting as to make an amendment after you have lodged your claim will cost you a fee which is non refundable.
Do plenty of reading, get all your info together and go for it.
