| | Basic Account Customer | Stopping Smoking Tommorow - On Champix Hi Everyone, newbie alert!
Just thought I'd introduce myself as I hope to be here for a long time.
I started Champix last Wed and plan on stopping tommorow, well will have my last cig before bed tonight.
I stopped last year for 17 weeks using Zyban and found it fantastic, however I did have some nasty side effects, such as feeling a bit mental for the first few weeks. I slipped though after finding myself having the odd one or two whilst drinking and before I knew it by September I was a fulltime smoker again.
I've found the Champix much nicer to take and wasn't really that convinced by them until yesterday, when i was thinking I don't really want to smoke now. I seem to be smoking just for the sheer hell of it because I know I'm stopping. Kind of a smoke as much as you can now before you stop thing. I've definitely noticed that I'm disliking the taste more too.
I've had a few nauseous episodes, one particularly nasty, but its not all the time and taking the tab with food or having a coffee (which I don't normally drink) definitely helps.
Good luck to everyone else already on the journey. I hope to "see" you all around.

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Stopping Smoking Tommorow - On Champix Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the welcome.
Well as of today I am a non-smoker . The Champix are working fabulously, even better than I felt on the Zyban!!! I feel totally free and its a wonderful feeling.
I haven't had anything near what I would describe as a craving, I've had the odd fleeting though, which I think is more habit as I've been going to do a bit of work and thought "I'll just have a ciggie then do that", then oops no I won't have a ciggie, I'll just do it, lol.
I have done the opposite of all the advice and am trying to make a huge lifestyle change rather than just smoking. I am trying to exercise and lose weight, so over the past two weeks I have bought a treadmill, which I've been using and I've completely changed my diet. I'm also trying to go to bed earlier and night and get up earlier in the morning. All of this is stopping me obsessing over stopping smoking, as I have other things to obsess over IYKWIM. Also, I'm trying to take up running as a hobby and seeing smoking as a barr to this. Everything I'm trying to change is all linked, so its a major life change for me.
I'm also going out for a half hour walk at lunch break from work. Normally I would have a cigarette on my outwards 15 mins and another on the backwards 15 mins. Today I walked very briskly and its a beautiful day, I was on my own (I normally go with a colleague) and I really did just feel FREE. Its a good feeling, and this IS my last attempt at stopping smoking, and it IS going to work.
Thanks for "listening" to my rant, I just wanted to get my feelings out.
Take care.

Wow what a brilliant thread and definitely not a rant IMO Well done, you are doing so well and I think it's great that you are making such big changes in lifestyle, that takes some doing.
I just wanted to offer my support and am keen to see how you go on with the Champix (I thought it was dog food when I first heard about it )
Day 3 and you're still going strong - you are definitely going to do it.
I'm hoping to get the "dog food" at the end of the month so you have a head start on me and I'll be watching your progress with interest.

Thanks for your messages Still here, day 9 for me!!!
Doing really well actually, the Champix are fabulous, I can't recommend them enough. I've read Allen Carr's book too though and I definitely think that has made a huge difference, from a psychological point of view! I feel different this time, like I'm definitely going to do it. I swore on my sons life yesterday, to my mum, that i am never going to smoke again.
I've also lost half a stone, which blows away the myth about gaining weight. I haven't felt the need to eat more at all, maybe because I'm making a conscious effort to eat less, who knows? Definitely feeling the difference in my running training too with my breathing.
Keep up the good work everyone!
