Default Urgent help please - cancelling a s/o

I have a standing order of £100 coming out of my RBS current account tomorrow but I only have £85 available in tha account. I have called RBS and they said they can ony cancel a Standing order 3 days prior to the payment date.
Considering the payment is to my parents RBS account of the same branch, I refuse to believe that, in this day and age, 24 hours is not enough notice to cancel a computer transaction.

Is there anything I can do or am I going to have to accept that I'll be charged £50(or whatever RBS get away with nowadays) for an unauthorised overdraft?

Any help would be much appreciated.

From the rbs website

Standing Orders
The cancellation notice has not changed as a result of the Faster Payments Service. To cancel Standing Orders you must give a minimum notice of three working days.
For example, if a payment is due to leave your account on a Friday; the final opportunity to cancel the mandate is by close of business on the Tuesday (three working days notice).
If you do not give sufficient notice to cancel a Standing Order it is your responsibility to request repayment from the beneficiary.

Wierd! This is a first, for me anyway, my standing order was showing on my account as being paid yesterday and now today it has been revoked and a unpaid item charge for £38 has been taken out my account. I hope they dont try to charge me for the unauthorised overdraft that was used when the item was temporarily paid. I wouldn't put it past them.
If the don't though, it might work out cheaper than if they did pay it as use of an unauthorised overdraft costs £30(for the transaction)+£28(for the monthly fee)=£58.
