| | Basic Account Customer | Visa ATM card dispute Hi all, I am a resident of the US, but right now am in Italy for a few months. So I did not open a bank account here and thought I can withdraw my cash using my Bank of America Check card in Visa ATMs.
Now, I first tried to use this in a Intesa Sanpaolo ATM. My card worked and I entered my security code and all. But when I wanted to complete my transaction I realized that I had keyed in the wrong amount. So, I canceled this transaction and made another transaction with the correct amount. I got the correct cash I wanted this time.
But to my horror, when I checked my online banking statement the next day, I find that both the amounts have been posted to my account (transaction has been completed). I did not get any cash the first time I canceled the transaction even though I have no proof! The second transaction, I have the receipt.
My question is
1) I choose to dispute the first transaction, will I get my money back?
2) Since, I am in Italy and will go back to the US only after 2 and half months, can I file my dispute after I return? (I called their customer service, they said this would be ok, but their website indicates I should file my dispute withing 60 days)
3) Is there any way to file my dispute online, or any other way, since they will send the affidavit only to my US address?
I contacted Intesa Sanpaolo. They asked me to fill out a form and said that they will check the machine.
I asked the Italian bank the next day and they replied that they did not notice any change or difference. The officer didn't say any sort of sorry or anything. I just think they are trying to steal the money, now that I have brought it to their notice and that I don't have any proper evidence. Now, I guess the only thing I can do is to file a dispute claim with BoA, but even then I don't know if it is going to work...
I am worried as I do not have any proof to show I did not get the money. Any suggestions or has anyone been through this before? |

Welcome to CAG
You may not have noticed the domain name but this is a site specialising in UK consumer issues.
However, we are a pretty resourceful lot and someone may actually know the answer to your question.
Good luck

| | Site Team | Re: Visa ATM card dispute Hi
This is a British site - Whilst we can explain what would happen here in the UK, the procedures may differ in the US so I don't think you will be able to get the right advice to help you here I'm afraid.

However, barracad is right. It migt be worth extending your search. Just to be on the safe side.
