Default Debt Collection Agencies

Can Anyone help! My cousin got into trouble with his credit card and it was subsequently sent to a debt collection agency. He asked a member of the family to help him pay off what they were asking for - a cheque was sent. The debt collection agency contacted him to say they had not received the payment, my cousin explained the cheque had been sent but the agency asked for payment again which was done by a debit card. The family member who helped out noticed on their statement that both the cheqy payment and debit had been taken. The debt collection agency is denys receiving the cheque or cashing it. The credit card company has become involved but it is going nowhere - any suggestions?

Contact the bank that issued the cheque (i.e. the one that the family member banks with). They should be able to trace the account number that it was paid into. If this matches the DCA then there's the proof you need.
