Default any specialists in Holiday entitlement??

My husband is entitled to 4 weeks paid leave per year and as far as I know there are no terms and conditions attached to that.
Last week we put a large deposit on a holiday because it was such a good price and we didn't want it to sell out.The balance should be paid by tomorrow.
Hubby asked his work (a large travel company) for the week off and this morning they have said no although it is a quiet time of year for them.
We are asking for the week 07/12-14/12. We wanted to take the kids on holiday because we didn't get a summer holiday and so both of their birthdays fall in that week so we thought we'd treat them.
He has always been forthcoming when it comes to overtime etc now this feels like a right stab in the back!

Sorry but for operational reasons or any other they can dream up (other staff off) they can refuse him the dates he wants. I know you will find this unhelpful but he should have made his application BEFORE booking the hol. The attempt at saving is now going to cost you.

However if he finds they allow others to take the same period AFTER refusing him & his job is not special then he would have a case for say constructive dismissal assuming he left the job.

Unless there is any other detail you can provide which puts matters into a different light then you are stuck with it I'm afraid

Hi. Thank you for the info. We know we were silly to book before having the agreement of annual holiday dates but it was a good offer. My husband has asked one stage higher at work and he will get a decision today. If it is still no I have spoken to the Travel Agents who had said they will transfer the deposit (£480) onto another holiday, so I hope all is not lost.There will be a fee of £15.00 each adult for this which is fine.
He isn't in a specialised industry, he is an omnibus driver, but he wouldn't leave his position over this, he has shares within the company and he enjoys the work. We have never done this before, we always book after having the dates confirmed, and we probably shouldn't have listened to the lady in the shop say "this is a special offer, they can withdraw this price anyday". We have been very naive but it's a lesson learned!

Panic over. He managed to find the 2 guys who had that week booked off, and one has ever so kindly agreed to swap, so hols are all paid for now and we've given his workmate a token of our appreciation
And we will never be so silly again!
