Default whoops advice on electronics please

just had a bit of expensive wash, washed several items including mobile gps etc....

stupid thing to do i know i blame not having sleep for couple of days...

the phones definatly dead broke it down to individual components but as it was on at the time it was a bit of a waste of time....

the tomtom was turned off while in the wash and from what i can see from removing the back cab doesnt appear to have any corroded components aside from the battery connector is green oxide.....

removed the battery and am looking at the rest, plugging it in gets faint image and buzzing sound, so powered off, there appears to be some water stuck between the protective film/touch bit and the rest of the screen...

not sure on the best way to dry this out i dont seem to have a small enought touque drive to take any more appart the smallest ive got is a T10 from my tosh kit... just wondering if anyone could suggest anything aside from buying a smaller one.

Stick it in the airing cupboard for a few days. It may dry it out even more.

I think it may be a T6 or is that T06 ? ( common size for phones and small electrical devices ) I second the disassembled airing cupboard drying out method. I'd avoid the temptation to switch it on for a few days at least as you increase the risk of an internal short circuit. Also, do not get impatient and end up firing a hot hair dryer at it, things are likely to go from bad to worse that way. Hope you get a working TomTom back in a few days time.

your problems are of your own impatience.
if anything like phones or ipods get washed, then put them in an airing cupboard as advised and forget about them for a week to ten days.
bar far the best thing to do is leave them alone after they have gotten wet - dont do anything, dont take the battery out ]they will be flat anyhow] and dont take them apart either.

it might be an idea to look at your house insurance as many of those policies cover gadget damage even by the owner.

Just to be pedantic, Torx - which is a trade name - not touque or torque
