Default Equity split help needed please

hoping someone can help...

I bought a house jointly with my ex partner, we are both on the deeds.

The deposit was paid jointly, mine was slightly more but that's not an issue.

He moved out in May 07 and the house was put on the market shortly after. As i am the bigger wage earner he agreed to pay almost 25% towards the mortgage payments until the house sold and he would receive 25% of the mortgage payment differnce from the time he moved out till the house sold but all other equity would be split 50/50. But for the past 4months he won't pay anything so it has all been left to me which i can barely afford.

He says he wants, and says he will supposedly get, 50% share of the equity regardless of the fact he hasn't contributed anything for 4months.

Can anyone please help as this doesn't seem fair, i have no issue with him getting 50% of what he has paid towards but don't see how he can be entitled to 50% of what he hasn't paid.

He says that as he had to furnish somewhere else that is taken into account, but when he moved out he took the furniture he had before we got together and a share of what we had bought jointly.

There are thankfully no children involved.
There was a deed of seperation drawn up detailing his 25% contribution and the share of equity etc but despite agreeing verbally he refused to sign the agreement.

I look forward to receiving some help and impartial advise to know where i may stand without having to pay a solicitor another £1000 for peace of mind.

Thanks

It might be worthwhile paying the solicitor - to be honest, if I had done that I wouldn't have let myself be conned by my ex-husband and would financially be better off now.

You could always try the CAB for initial advice, but under these circumstances, bitter experience has told me it's more profitable to go through a solicitor and bite the bullet on the costs in order to get more money in the end.

Yes, tis usually the case - once you've split up with someone, you suddenly discover you never really knew them at all.
