Co-Op Bank hold details I have never told them, is this legal ? I am currently in the early days of putting a credit card through the Co-Op into default, have sent letters, offer of reduced payment, financial statement which as of last night they appear not to have received. A phone call from them revealed this and I wasn't prepared to discuss the letter if they didn't have it, fair enough, then the young lady said can I check some details, fine, do you have a mobile telephone ? Yes thankyou, Can I have the number ? No. Can you tell me who your employer is ? No. Well on our file we have it as X. Now I know I have never told them this and infact haven't spoken to them for more than six years (I have only worked for my employer for 3 years, hence my astonishment they held this info) or corresponded and I am a bit worried on how this information has been obtained and that it is held by them on their records without my authority. Has there been any breaches of Data Protection here, I do want to write and ask what they hold on me and how this tallies with what I know I have told them and what they need to/are entitled to know and I want to get my facts right before I go storming in with a letter, I do find it disturbing that this sensitive information is on their file without me having provided it. I am not particularly worried about them knowing where I work as I am aware it is against the creditors guidelines for them to contact me there and suspect this question was thrown at me as part of the psychological onslaught I was expecting, however I think it is equally important that I react in the right way and rather than being scared make sure they know I am keeping a close eye on their activities and that I won't be pushed around and that I am on the ball, it just doesn't seem right to me.
Any help or comments on this matter would be welcome !
