Default Employer wants employee to change shifts, but empoyee doesn't want to!

Employer wants employee to change shifts, but empoyee doesn't want to!

Sorry but I couldn't find a forum that fits this topic so its here in general.

My friend called me today, he works shifts at his place of work, his girlfriend works the same shifts.
His employer wants him to change to the opposite shift, he isn't happy with that as he thinks it will create difficulties in his relationship with GF and also he will have to set off earlier due to rush hour traffic, thus wasting more of his home time.

Is there any way he can stop his employer changing his shift?

The union at 1st thought they would have to give him 13 weeks notice. I suggested if they do then give them 13 weeks notice that you are leaving.

However he now believes they only have to give 1 week notice.

HELP PLEASE

Go back to the union - they will keep him right. I suppose it will depend on what is written in his contract. If it says they reserve the right to alter his working hours, then they do reserve that right if he signed the contract.

Hi

The only thing he can do really is to put in a Grievience stating that if he changed shifts, his family life would be in tatters. His work / family life balance would be ruined. Companies do try and tell everyone how good they are when it comes to family life issues. You could ask if they won't change their minds to ask for your wife to change shifts also. Not unreasonable i would have thought.

Hope this helps

Uk...
