I think Priority one was right, they just havent been very helpful with my matter at all.
This was the initial email they sent me after I emailed them and said the light was flickering on themand they were losing heat no mention of cost to return them to me, guess I should have been on the ball and asked! ...just didnt occurr to me i would have to pay to have them sent back to me, thought it would be complimentary as part of thier customer service!)
We were sorry and concerned to receive details of the problem you have experienced with the ghd irons.
The ghd iron is a high quality product and we pride ourselves on the reliability of the products in our range.
If you're in the UK or Ireland you need to return the irons to us, preferably by a registered delivery service insured to the value of your parcel so you can keep track of them, accompanied by a brief letter detailing the problem.
To obtain an update on the progress of your returns you need to contact our customer services team on 0845 330 11 33.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further queries.
Many Thanks,
Rob Pye

| | Platinum Account Customer | Re: GHD Straighteners - RESULT!!! Bushwackah.... without re-reading the thread, I can't remember what your particular situation was with GHD, but if you look at the letter they sent you, they admit that your appliance is faulty !
"We can confirm that the fault on your irons was with one of the devices on the printed circuit board"
I would home in on this one.... they are confirming a fault in writing. I don't have my letter writing head on tonight, or would draft up a suitable response, but if you want to post your own draft up on here, I will edit it for you over the week-end.

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: GHD Straighteners - RESULT!!! Need a bit of advice. Been reading through all the stories and am getting a bit un nerved about sending mine back!
Right lets start from the beginning around 4 years ago i had a faulty pair, sent them back and they sent me another pair no problem - then that pair broke and i didnt bother sending them back and instead borrowed my mams which were bought christmas 2005 (this is where i think i may possibly be pushing it), the MK3 straightners broke around 3 month ago, couldnt be bothered with the hassle so didnt do anything, however i would like them fixed or new ones.
I have the box, have a receipt as i bought them off boots online and the straightners.
They just wont work, light wont turn on when plugged in, wont heat up etc.
What do i do?
I've read all of your stories on here, so am just wondering if theres anything i can do. These straightners were well looked after and werent used excessively, and i stil feel for paying that sort of money you should expect them still to work.
Can anyone help?
Thanks Emma x |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: GHD Straighteners - RESULT!!! Hi,
I have recently received quite a bad burn on my fore arm, when my ghd straightners shorted out and sent out a spark and an electric shock to my arm during use. I am only thankful that it was the back of my hair I was using them on and not my fringe, as it would have been my eye that received the shock. I can't warn people enough about this. I have since purchased a different pair of proffessional straightners, but now wear safety glasses when using around my face. (I know a bit of an over reaction, but prevention is better than cure in my eyes).
I contacted Jemella and received the same standard response letter that everyone else seems to have received, but they just replaced the cord and send them straight back to me in less than 7 days and no mention of any charges. I got the impression though that they just wanted to keep me quiet, but they have just done the opposite. I was not after a refund or a repair, I was not aware that there was any problems but since receiving their letter just did a search on google and came up with hundreds of hits about this subject. I am shocked to see how many problems there are with these things, and they are obviously aware. Why they have not done a recall or issued a warning letter is beyond me. When I wrote to them after the incident I was hoping they would contact me, show some concern and launch an investigation. I am now going to report this to the HSE executive and my local trading standards office. |

Incidentally, mine were manufactured in Sept. 2005 and no longer under warranty, but in my opinion, they are not fit for purpose. 2 years would seem the life span of these straightners and then they self combust!! How can they still be getting away with it? | I had the exact same problem, i phoned Jamella too, and was told to send them in, i sent mine back last tuesday and still not heard from them! Just hope they got lost in the post, then Royal Mail will have to fork out for a new pair for me lol |
