Default Caravan Issue

My mother and stepdad purchased this van on a park in Sheerness, Kent on 25th March 2006

They have since seen a new van on another site, and wish too sell this one.

But first, does anyone know if these prices can be justified, as i think they take the michael.

Van £4650 - Abi Hawaii, 3 bedroom 1997 35 ft lentgh 10ft width

water connection £240
electric connection & safety test £215
Gas connection & safety - £270
Siting/pdi/anchors £540
pitch fee £1995 (march - octo)
insurance £154.58
Rates £15.83
TV aerial- £69
Axle jacks £99
Fire Ext £45
Smoke alarm £17
Steps & handrail £80

£8390.41

£160 paid to replace cooker (as it was condemed), as original was discontinued.
£300 - seats recovered as moldy.

The guy a few months ago reckoned he would only give them £1500 to take it off there hands, and this has...shall we say knarked me.

Any help or info would be great.

My parents had a static van a few years ago and what you are describing is fairly common practice among caravan parks.

Unfortunately most parks put clauses in the contracts stating you can only sell your van back to the site owners. This leaves the owners with a license to print money where buyback prices are concerned. You usually find that the offer price is better if you are buying a newer van on the same site.

Im not sure what you could do about it really, have a look over the original contract for a start and see if there is a clause in it that the van has to be sold back to the park. The other "favourite" clause is to put a "No vans over ten years old" bit in there.
If there isnt a clause then Id say advertise it privately.
