Default Complaining against opponent's lawyer.How?

As a lot of people on this forum - I am a litigant in person.

I have been dealing with an ongong claim that has got a lawyer acting on behalf of my opponent. This does not bother in the least. To be honest,in the last round I beat the opponent's barrister with the arguments that were being put forward which actually woke the law firm to what sort of litigant I am.

However, more than once as we have gone along I have been intimidated with actions on the lawyer's part to try and compel me to do what the lawyer wants i.e.threats with getting orders if I do not do something by a particular day and me paying for these orders and the like.

I am getting pretty fed up with this and would be grateful if there is any way I can complain about this lawyer and or the lawyer's firm to wake them up and mainly to kerb this sort of behaviour whether to a statutory body governing lawyers and/or the civil court service or both if appicable.

Any advice would be highly be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Would the Law Society be the way to go?

Hi yourbank,

Many thanks for your post.

As far as I am aware the Law Society would deal with complaints about your own lawyer i.e.shoddy work, negilgence, not reply to letters and list goes on but not complaints about an opponent's lawyer.

Also, this is complaint about a lawyer interfering in my right a citizen to have a fair hearing. In my view,no different to witness intimidation in criminal cases but the ones carrying out the acts of intimidation are not the criminal gangs but the lawyers.

Just my 2p's worth!

Hi BB,

Many thanks for your post.

I have just skimmed through reading on the site you have just mentioned and it DOES NOT cover this sort of complaint.

However, I have just found that there is another body that deals with this sort of complaint it seems which is The Solicitor Regulation Authority. This body deals with these sort of matters because it could be in the public interest for it to do so because lawyers have duties to their clients of course and most importantly to the courts plus the way they behave with third parties which could potentially amount to misconduct

The link to the site is as follows:

Solicitors Regulation Authority - Protecting consumers of legal services

I will give the SRA a ring tomorrow and see how I get on.

If a lawyer thinks he/she can intimidate me - they can kiss my a**! lol!

Once again, many thanks for the help!
