Default British Gas

Today I got a letter from Energy watch following my complaint to them a couple of weeks ago over British Gas and my account.
They say they are actively investigating it and still awaiting a response from them.
Goes on to say that if they continue to fail to respond TEAM LEADER will force them to respond as they will escalate action.
The original complaint centres around having no communications with British gas despite all my efforts for a long period of time.
Also their insistence that my meter was logged as a card type when it clearly was not.
Energywatch are having my experiences confirmed by British Gas failing to co operate.

Tony Hetherington, the Readers' Champion in "The Mail on Sunday" outlined his experiences of "Gas Bills from Bullies" in yesterday's paper.

I'm going to write and refer him to the CAG site and your post.

He's a very good writer, and I've known him through the media for probably 25-30 years as he used to write for "Resident Abroad" - a magazine for expatriates.

He asks "if you believe you are the victim of financial wrongdoing, write to Tony Hetherington at 'Financial Mail', 2 Derry Street, London W8 STS"
He adds original documents cannot be returned nor private answers given.

Thanks Van
I shall look into that, and perhaps write to him.

My only concern regards involving the press is one of sub judicea.

If I decide to proceed with a court case it could maybe be invalidated as the case could be considered prejudiced if the subject matter has already been published in a national paper?

I am still considering all my options and how to proceed. ie; Should I name and shame them into rectifying matters, or actaully take them to court?

Perhaps, if you do have a means to contact him, you could ask him to contact me to discuss this and help me make this decision?

If I then go for name and shame, he sounds like someone that would get results, If however, I go the court route, in such circumstances, I would still appreciate any pre action advice he could maybe offer?

I would then keep him informed of progress, and he would certainly be welcome to publish a story on the outcome.

If you PM me, I'll give you an email address and/or other contact details for you to pass onto him.

Like most newspaper columnists, Photoman,Tony Hetherington does not engage in private correspondence but I'm sure he would respect any confidence with which was entrusted.

I'll see if there is any way to get his article on line, and if so post here.

Good luck.

OK Photoman.

Go to Financial Advice, News, Help & Guides from This is Money UK, click on 'News' at top left and then when a small list appears click on 'Columnists'.

Tony Hetherington and his article on British Gas then becomes available to open. Enjoy the read!!

Regards
