Default Lost Mortgage

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

I got a mortgage through the Woolwich 9 weeks ago and gave them a name of a solicitors I was told by my estate agents that would be representing me.

2 weeks after that the Estate Agents changed the Solicitors and as I was getting married I forgot to tell the Woolwich of the change. When I asked the Woolwich to release the mortgage they sent it to the wrong solicitors, totally my fault, it was sorted out within 3 days.

The Woolwich were then given the correct Solicitors and said they would transfer the money to them, that was 2 weeks ago. I have been ringing the Woolwich and kept getting someone who spoke broken English at best telling me the money has been transferred to the correct solicitors but they have not recieved it and neither have the other solicitors who it was sent to at first.

I have made an appointment with them today and was wondering what to do or say, they have taken 2 weeks for something they said would take 2 days. I was told by a junior at the Solicitors to ask for Apex (immediate money transfer) and it would cost about £20 but nobody has heard of it.

Really in a panic and would really appreciate any help, thank you in advance.

Well first off i would be asking why something is taking 14 days when they said it would be done in 2.

Why did the estate agents change the solicitors?

And most importantly, has any moneies left the Woolwich?!? And if so where it this money?

Has the Woolwich/Barclays established a mortgage account for you yet, and if so is it showing a negative balance?

Sounds very odd to me to say the least, estate agents changing solicitors, you are entitled to use any solicitor you like to handle your side of the deal.

We rang yesterday and at first we were told the Bank had not recieved the mortgage back from the incorrect solicitors only to be told a few minutes later that they had recievied it 2 weeks ago but had not forwarded it on to the correct solicitors because we had apparently told them not to which is news to us!

The Estate Agents changed solicitors because the first solicitors were rushed off their feet and we thought going with the recommended one would be easier.

We have been told now that it will take 12 working days to send the money to the correct solicitors because they need to "assess the situation" but could not tell us why they needed to do that.

Because the bank will be wondering exactly the same as most people, why is the monies getting passed about like this (money laundering regulations) its not as if it is a few grand, it's alot of money that leaves "foot prints" in the banking system.

Always, always, always, always.... use your own solicitor when dealing with property, never the "recomended" solictors by the agents, usually because they'll be in on a deal for commission anyway.

Why are the estate agents appointing 'your' solicitors?

Smile Re: Lost Mortgage

We spoke to the solicitor today who said the correct information was sent onto the Bank before the Mortgage was sent out, they just didnt update the system.

We were told the Estate Agent used that particular Solicitor and we didnt know we could change, however the Solicitor being used now is the one we would have went with had we chose.

The Solicitor said we are one of 3 in the past week that she knows of where the Woolwich have sent money to incorrect Solicitors, she said the her boss rang the Woolwich and he was told the problem is they have too many workers who have English as their second language.

We are just hoping that something can be done quickly.

Thank you for all your help, didnt realise how friendly this forum was, really cant say how thankful I am for your quick and informative responses

Banks do make mistakes, but when it is the banks money it is sending about, it doesn't make 3 mistakes in one week, if it happened this often then i'd be looking else where for a mortgage.

Let's hope you get it all resolved sooner rather than later before the bank makes another mistake and sends it to General Waku of the Nigerian Federal Reserve.
