Default Advice desperately sought ..

Hi folks ,i,ve just joined the site and trying to find my way around as i am seeking advice and any help would be very much appreciated.
I took a loan out with Blemain Finance approximately just over 2 years ago: it is a secured loan on my home for the sum of £5,000 and was making regular monthly payments until a few months ago ,when i was taken into hospital and since have been both an inpatient and outpatient on a regular basis.
I contacted the company to let them know of my circumstances and agreed to pay a reduced sum until my health problems ,including major sugery ,has been "completed" ,so to speak. I was /am being constantly harrased by them ( when they telephone & i ask who i,m speaking with ,i,m told i "do not need to know that"?? They were/are causing me a great deal of stress with their "bully" mannerism and in December i sent copies of all my medical letters ,i.e. discharge notes ,clinic appointments etc and also asked for a schedule of all payments i,ve made ,including interest but have never heard back from them: i addressed this to a "manager" on the advice of one representative of the company ,although my GP said it really is none of their business to know what my health problems /treatments are?
I did approach the CAB who were very nice and was told my "options" ,however the company are piling on interest for every telephone call and letter ,yet they have ignored my letters 3 times now and today i received another call from them ,a rather nasty one ,telling me they have received nothing ,yet my last letter with my medical documents were signed for on the 28th December 2007 (i post everything to them by recorded delivery).
Basically ,the chap who phoned accused me of lying and he has left me very distressed and in tears as i have proof of all my correspondence to them ,etc. With the extortinate interest they are charging ,i am extremely worried as i will be paying back ,effectively nearly double what i took out initally (i think).
If anyone can please advise me on what i can do as i have done as they asked re sending my medical "records" yet they have ignored me and just sending more letters and calls ,adding more interest: i did not take insurance out as i was "advised" by them when i took the loan " i probably would never need it" and am presently in arrears of approximately £250 .Many thanks in advance ,Mandy

From what I have read elsewhere on CAG, your experience is not unique.

Firstly, it's clear that speaking to this company on the telephone is wholly unproductive. In any case, it's best that everything should be in writing.

It seems to me that you need to send a letter setting out the situation as you see it, and also the terms on which you will deal with the matter. This should be in the form of a formal complaint, because they are under a legal obligation to have a complaint procedure; if they fail to respond, or do not answer satisfactorily, you can go to the Financial Services Ombudsman.

I, or others here, will help you to draft a letter, if you like.

As SP says Mandy, you really should cease talking to them on the phone, they are no doubt denying receipt of your letters because they can hear your distress over the phone and would prefer to do bullying that way.

If you should have another conversation with them, then be forceful and break in on what he is trying say, if he calls you a liar then shout at him, they don't like it when you start taking charge and it dawns on them your not the pushover they thought you were.

hi Mandy

My full sympathies go to you with this bunch of wassocks.
There are several threads on them and all of us who have had the mis-fortune to get mixed up with them know exactly what you are going through.

They will ignore you for ever unless you take a firm and insistant approach with them.

I would send one more letter to them headed complaint and then if no joy go to the FOS. At least then you have the pleasure of knowing they will get charged.

Whatever you do now though stop talking to them on the phone, always write and send recorded delivery.

They do back down eventually but it takes months.

Good luck
