Hmmm estate agents.

They are unlicenced and there is a desperate need to monitor these people.

I've known of some being commissioned and within 30 minutes they have a buyer-who also happens to be a friend. Totally illegal-if proved of course.

Until something happens there is very little you can do. It will basically be contract law that ties you together and black and white print is king.

They are just salesman and I know one who was on about £2k a day 10 years ago!

Yet on my HIP (Home Info Pack) course recently the 4 estate agents on there were as thick as pig swill and couldn't pass the exams!

They are a joke. But loaded.

Is your estate agent a member of the National Association of Estate Agents. If so, you can call on the compliance department there, to help you, and as a member of the NAEA will have to belong to the ombudsman scheme.

If not NAEA affiliated see if they are members of any other organisation like NALS, and try those bodies to see if they will help.
