Default Nationwide Problem

Hi, I wonder if nayone can advise me on my rights/what to do.

My friend had a problem with her car, car stoppd going into fith gear, she took it to a nationwide garage and they said it was the gear linkage cables or somehting liek that. They said it would be £200 parts including fitting.

She agreed and put the car in the garage, then later on that day they rang back saying its not the linkages, she in fact needs a new gearbox approx £800.

She said she could afford that, so said she would have to pick it up the following week. She has asked me to go with her to pick the car up, she s worried that they will still charge her the £200 for the linkages.

Anyone know where she stands for any payment etc, ie they diagnosed that it was the linkages but thats not the case so does she still have to pay?

Would appreciate some advice as dont want to go there with her without a clue of where she stands..

Thanks
Darren

If they rang her to inform her before they carried out the gearbox replacement, then i presume they got her authority to do the work - so she will have to pay for that. As for the cost of the gear linkage, that would depend on whether they had to replace these first as a process of elimination - but they should have explained this to her at the time.

contact them and asked what the bill will be; I would say all she has to pay for is the time looking into the problem? as they probably have not done anything yet.
