Default Problem with garage's bill

Hi this is my first post so hello to everyone. My problem is my local garage which i've used for years with no trouble, until now.Ive bought a couple of cars from them in the previous few years, traded them back, had them serviced with no problems at all and been happy with them.In January of this year I bought a car from them with a years warranty and had no bother with it.but recently I took this car there to have its bumper fixed as it had been partially knocked off when I reversed into a fence post and while it was there to get repaired I got two new front tyres put on as they were needing replaced. This was done OK and the bill paid when we picked up the car so all OK.When we went out to the car though to drive off,the engine managment light was on which had never happened before. We took it back and a couple of days later they reset the computer free of charge and it was off.About 2 miles down the road it was back on again so it went back and we were told it needed a new sensor at £140.00.I found this odd and it was queried when it went back to get the sensor put on.we were told no to worry about it and when we got the car back there was no bill waiting(as is usually the case)and were just told to take it away and see how it was for a couple of weeks(the engine managment light remains off at he moment).I took this to mean that it was either fixed as they maybe damaged/got dirt etc into it when they removed the front bumper(the car had a very grimy windscreen etc after its tyre/bumper visit) or it had been fixed under the warranty. But today through the post was a bill £255.00I'm prtty mad to say the least.Mrs Goalkeeper phoned them up and there going to get back to me on the bill to see if 'there is something' they an do with it as the warranty doesn't cover it.I feel Im being made to pay for something that I shouldn't have to.Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

The bill should contain a breakdown of the cost, i.e parts, labour and VAT as Lula says.
And if you have dealt satisfactorilly with this garage before; query it and I am sure they will explain what was done and how the bill is made up.
If you still think it is not right, you are in the fortunate postion in that you have the car and they want some money so you could haggle, but if you have any trouble in the future they may not be so keen to help or may put the price up!

Ok thanks.what annoys me more is that it went in originally with one fault(bumper/tyres)but came out with another, and then to find my warranty doesn't cover it

Hi. What type of car is it and exactly which sensor needed replacing? Replacing a bumper or tyre in itself would never cause the mil to light up. It probably is a coincidence that the fault occurred whilst at the garage. However, I have to say £115 to replace a sensor does sound extremely expensive.

car is a Toyota rav4.Bill split up as follows Lamda Sensor £141.69
EML on check report and remove
and replace front bumper clip 35.00
Bumper Clip 2.49
Tune up 40.00
VAT 38.37

Total £257.55

Looks like one bumper clip was required from previous job but this all seems very exessive to me for a sensor
