Gear box went bang!!!

The problem being that something in my gearbox went bang, and put a hole strait throu the bell houseing. Ive had to have a gearbox rebuiled and new bell housing it cost a lot!!!
My car is a nissan almera only 4 years old and done 34k miles. Surely this wouldnt shouldnt happen to a car this young??? Even a mec from the nissan garage i bourght it from said this is the first time hes heard of an almera gearbox breaking like this!!
If some one would give me a little insight to this it would be of much help.

I have had the car for 1 year 2 months. I pick up the car on 31st dec 06. Its a 53 plate. Its the first thing that has went wrong with the car. Its only just had a MOT (December)
