A good auto electrician should sort it in about an hour, £50 ish, don't be surprised if they suggest an alternator, it could be that as well.
Hammy | Without wanting to denigrate your suggestion Hammy, why would a lose alternator plug cause the power to cut - it would continue to be fed from the battery? If it were sinking the entire available output of the battery, there would be melted wires. |

On the better cars, this is fed via a cutout relay. Check that your oil is not low which would expose the sensor when going around a corner.
Of course the car would start again right away as the oil has now leveled in the sump while stopped. |
