Default no engine and no refund

Hi All Ive just joined. This looks like a good site.

I paid 352 pounds on 8 oct 07 for an engine and gearbox from a co. called Engines UK Ltd in Liverpool. When it hadn't arrived after a week I rang and was told that the insurance paperwork hadn't been received by them due to the postal strike( they didn't mention this paperwork when I paid). Then it was the backlog of the strike. On 25 oct I complained and they said I could have a refund if I wished. I said that as my car was sitting in a garage with no engine I would wait to recieve the engine. I have rung numerous times. A woman called Sue was dealing with it and on another occassion she said she doesn't deal with that side of things. I asked for the name of the co. director and was told Ian Coles. The following week I rang again. This time his name was Darren McGoffrey. She said when asked that she didn't know how to spell it. She said she would give the message to the office manager Ian Jones. I gave out my number yet again for him to ring me. I have only had one call back from them and that was to take my money. Has anyone heard of this company?. I paid by debit card . I have a feeling I may end up going to court on this . Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Where was it advertised? If it was one of the major advertising magazines like 'Exchange and Mart' read their advertising conditions to see if they can help you.

Hi Conniff ,thanks for your reply and advice

I found the company on the internet through Findanengine which advertises other companies. I have e mailed them on their site for telling them about any problems with companies but haven't had a reply.

You've paid for an engine and they have failed to deliver.

Where does insurance come into this?

Hi Pat

When I rang a week after ordering they said that they were waiting to receive paperwork from an insurance company in order to be able to release the engine. They didn't mention any of this when I was paying, so I was under the impression that they had this engine ready to deliver. I have now recorded two letters, one to the bank authorizing them to investigate, and another to Engines UK Ltd formally requesting the return of my money within 14 days.
