Here's hoping someone can advise me on what is reasonable here:
My other half noticed a problem with his car- it was overheating, a lot- he drives upwards of 25000 miles/year so we do expect the odd problem. As the car is crucial for his work he took it in to a main dealer to find and fix the problem. For one reason and another this wasn't the main dealer we normally use- where he bought the car 3 years ago (obviously this was just after the warranty ran out

.
Anyhow- they had the car for a full day- rang him at lunchtime to say it was a faulty temp sensor and he could pick the car up- we went back at 5.00 expecting it to be ready- turned out they didn't have the part, but could order it if he wanted- at the cost of another day without a car. They charged £90 for diagnosing the fault, and wanted another £120 to get, and replace the sensor.
We weren't too chuffed- given he had the impression they were supposed to be actually fixing the problem that day, so we took the car back to the main dealer we normally use to replace the sensor, they did this today- (cost of about £120
Less than two miles down the road the temp had redlined again- so he drove straight back there, where they got the car in straight away, and tyold him he was lucky to have an engine left as the coolant pump wasn't working- currently the car is sitting there waiting for this to be replaced.
- Given that the first garage took £90 to diagnose a problem, and did it incorrectly I'm fairly sure we can reclaim that charge (Grateful for any advice on this)
- Also could we claim back for the temperature sensor from them- as they had reccomended it's replacement- which didn't fix the problem.
Grateful for any advice....
