Beware of peugeot finance!! I am not one for financing...probably cause aint nobody wanna give me finance anyway lol, but the one time I did finance I found it such a difficult and upsetting experiance.
I was dealing with Peugeot Finance, my dad took the finance out for me and I made the payments straight from my bank, every time I contacted them I always had to get my dad to verify who I was even though at the point of setting up the finance my name was on the papers. My dad gave consent for customer services to go through me and it made it a lil easier when the staff could be bothered to acknowledge that my father had named me as contact person for the finance... I ran into some difficulties paying at one point not through any fault of my own but strived to get on top of it. Another company became involved in collecting the arrears and I will say the man that visited my home was lovely, not bullyish or rude at all. He listened to what I had to say and understood that sometimes things happen that you have no control over and so gave me time to raise the money and pay... which I did, I paid the money into a different account as specifield, but then one day he contacted my dad to say I wasn't making the payments and was to pay £809 in a week or give back the car, he even had the nerve to say he contacted my dad by accident ((dont believe that)) but also said that it was quite obvious as a single mother of three and not working I couldn't afford the car, he even told me to look at the car as a rental and just let them sell my car!! I had paid at that time £5000 on that car the cost of the car was £5999 and the finance brought the car up to £8000+
I was so insulted, but something in me wasn't quite right, I sat down and went through all my paperwork and scanned every receipt for the money I paid into this specified account and sent it to Peugeot Finance requesting a statement of what I owed, Peugeot sent it back with no apology, it turned out I actually owed £109 and that the money paid into the account of the company ment to send the money on to peugeot had not sent the money at the times when they should have done, however peugeot instead of making sure that all monies from this company had been properly received had issued out instructions to collect the money or the car.
The man that was incharge of collecting the debt assured me they were going to pass the debt back to peugeot and that this wasn't the first time peugeot had done this, without making sure money & information was correct, I was informed that he had been sent to the home of a woman to collect money or car to meet the husband who had informed him the wife had died of breast cancer quite some time ago and that peugeot was well aware as the insurance on the car had been paid and no money was owing on the car...he said that in my case had he taken the car the case would have been thrown out of court because the amount owed was significantly less than what peugeot claimed I owed.
The most difficult problem I had with them was while trying to deal with them on the phone they began to refuse to talk to me saying I wasn't authorised to information on the account, this had been after talking them for over 2yrs, I was the only one that ever contacted them and told them to check all the calls logged, why now with one yr left to pay was I being told my name isn't on the account? It turns out that customer service had not included on the file the information given to talk to me about the account even though my dad had authorised it over 2yrs ago, I also brought up the subject of my fathers address, he moved home and gave them his new address, every time i wrote them from my address they didn't acknowledge me but wrote to my dad but at my address, it seems that they changed his address on file, but when I brought this up they tried to deny changing it and said my dad had, but could not tell me when, and as I was the only one who contacted them regarding the finance they had no date of a conversation with my father about it.
Peugeot even mad a major mistake which had I thought about it they would have found themselves in serious trouble, as I came home from hospital after the birth of my daughter to find a big white envelope, inside was pages and pages of customer's information, arrears details phone numbers and address for each customer on each sheet, it made me wonder if they could send other peoples details to me they could send mine to others. It showed not just debts for Peugeot Finance but Citreon etc and when I contacted them about it all they did was ask me to put it in the bin... Had I not just come home with a new baby I probably would have either contact the other customer to make them aware of what violations peugeot had commited or even informed the papers.
I am happy to say I have since cleared the finance four months before it was due to end and got rid of the car also and purchased another car cash, never again, I cant believe that someone would look at me as a single mother, granted I wasn't working at that time but to see that I have already paid £5000 on the car to tell me to just look at it like a rental, that money could have feed my kids and done a whole load of things so to throw it away like that would have been a sin on my part, the fact that bad things happen to good people and that sometimes things happen outside your contol doesnt give people the right to look at your current circumstances and assume this about your financial ability to pay expecially when it turns out the mistake wasn't even on my part but theres!! And had I not felt some what uneasy and gone back and checked my paperwork they would have gotten away with taking my car as there was no way i could raise £809 in one week. |
