Default Can I Ask You For Some Advice Please..

hello again
thank you to all the people who gave me advice regarding my disaplinary 2nd june and as you know i was dismissed.
well what i would like to know is when the disaplinary was taking place i told the manager that NO ONE knew what mistake i had made and i was told by the store sercurity manager that whatever was said within the four walls it would stay within the four walls.
as you already know i was escorted out through the store by the police etc (if you want to know the full ins and outs please read my last thread).
anyway only for the fact of the humiliation of walking right through the store and giving people an eye full i havent spoke to no one within my circle of friends as i was embarrassed.
so what im trying to get to is i havent told my parents the real reason why i was dismissed as i dont want them to be upset with me but yesterday my sister(who doesnt know ive left work) was at my cousins house and her neighbour has told my cousin that i was escorted out the store for taking dvd's. so now my family are asking me questions about why i really left......
is there anything i can do about this break of confidentiality? its like everyone knows what i did when i know 100% i havent told no one as i am also banned form the store..
do i need to contact my union rep who was with me at the meeting and tell her whats happened or should i just leave it but i feel my name is being dragged around for doing something wrong when it shouldnt even be out.im paying the price for my mistake.

any advice is welcomed

Initially, I would contact the union rep.
He/She will be aware of the disciplinary outcome.
I would be guided by what he/she says. After all, he/she was there at the time.
If there is any basis for a complaint, the the union rep should be in a position to help you with it.

Good luck.
Rooster.

Personally, I would say that you can't.

It would appear that Tesco have not breached your confidentiality; the publicity arose from the Police action - which is technically outside Tesco's control.

If you are in he union that I think you are in for Tesco then you might as well forget it as they are too cosy with Tesco manager and will not do anything for employees. hopefully I am wrong but let us know anyway.

I don't remember if you were charged and cautioned by the Police.

If so, Tesco can argue that the information is in the public domain.

Hi Magic when you were escorted from your place of work via police, i would imagine your colleagues put 2 & 2 together and came up with 5. What you discussed within your hearing would be private, but seeing a co worker taken away with the police is bound to set tongues wagging. When i worked at wilko's that was the first conclusion everyone jumped to when a member of staff left with the police. People will talk there's no way round that, but i'm sure they won't know what went on in your meeting.
How's the job hunting going? did you sign on for jobseekers

I have tried to say this to you before and I sure that you will not appreciate what is essentially the best bit of help I can give you. You need to get over it, but down to an abberation and just get on with you life without Tesco.

THink of how you would have reacted if it had been one of your colleques that had done what you did and the gossip that would have surrounded the episode.

Part of me thinks that you really need to thank you lucky starts that you were not prosecuted then it would have been in the public domain and very likely in the local press if it was a slow news day.

Then -You did wrong, you got punished - Now - forgive yourself and move on with your life and all that it has to hold for you.

Hi magic i'm fine thank you. Nice to see you're thinking positive about the future, things will improve for you. My personal opinion would be not to disclose the why's and how's you left your previous job, but to say something on the lines of change of career, family commitments.
Keep us posted on the job front & take care.

Hi magic i feel that if you put real reasons down you won't get as far as an interview, but thats only my view. Maybe others may see things differently. See it as if you were a future employer, if you saw an application like yours would you interview them?. If the answer's no then don't disclose anything. Any reference from previous employers will be asked standard questions i.e did this person work for you and how long. I think your reference from tesco will be fine.

HI Magic

I was dismissed from my job about two months ago. I feel it was unfair but that is irrelevant. I asked my old employer exactly what they would put in the reference so I would know what to expect. They are a fairly small company compared to Tesco but they confirmed to me that all they would put is my job title and dates of employment. I am sure that if you direct enquiries to the Head office and not your old branch they will be more careful about what they put.

Don't go on hearsay just give them a call and ask exactly what they will put. You have a right to know!

Good luck

fao unicorn

thanks very much for your advice.
i did state on my aplication that they would need to contact head office anyway for a reference. ive been told that if they give me a bad reference its classed as victimisation. not sure how true that is.
i tried contacting my old line manager today but she hasnt rang me back at all so i guess she wont.

have you managed to find a new job yet?

thanks again

Hi Magic

I was offered a new job today which seems a lot better than my old one and in a nicer company too. I still have a grievance and an appeal in at my old employers but I can look to the future now.

Try to stay positive and I'm sure you'll find something better too.

Good luck
