selling the bussiness, what about employees?

We have just found out that the place we work at was put for sale. We know it may take some time before it happends, but we are already worried. What will happen with us? We are all employeed permanently and the advertisement sais "bussiness unaffected". Does it mean that we will keep our jobs or if not how long notice will we get? Will anything happen to us if the place is rented? What does it mean free lease? Do they have a wright to let us go?

First and foremost, have you asked your employer these questions? What was their response?

Also, are you sure that it is the business which is being sold and not just the building? It may just be that your employer leases the building from a landlord who is selling the property with you still in it as a tenant - that happens all the time.

If it does turn out that the company is being sold, then you have rights which would have to be taken on by any new owner, but I think at this stage you need to clarify whether the sale is of the building, or the business.
