Just recieved a letter (Your Data Subject Information Request (DSIR)) asking for me to prove my identification?

I find that amazing since the address they send my statements to and the address that has been registered on there system for over 5 years is the address i asked them to send the data to????? Bonkers!

Identification:
A bank, building society or credit card statement.
A store card statement
A utility bill

Shall i send them one of my egg statements!? lol Better not since that my also add to delays.

What the DSIR letter does say:

"What information will be included in the Data Subject Information Request?
You will recieve a copy of all personal data we hold about you on our computer or paper files, along with a set of explanation notes. This data may include, as applicable, the following products:" blah blah

So that all sounds very promising, until i read....

"What happens now?
Once we have recived your identification document we will begin processing your request. We will provide your data within 40 Calendar days of recieveing your completed form and fee"

What bloody form!!!!

They have done this for others too! Call them and ask them for the form, as they obviously forgot?? to include it.

Remind them on the phone and when you send the form back that they have to comply within the time limit from when they had your letter and payment.

They are being very difficult, but its easier to just fill it in and get it sorted TBH!

Good Luck

This is all crap. All they need for identity verification on a Data Protection Act request is your signature.

EDIT: This may not be correct ) i have since seen differing views on this.

I don't believe the form rubbish either. Do what I did - send them a message using the secure messaging on their site. This definitely identifies you as you have to be logged in to your account.

Im afraid, Egg use this to stall, but it is legal, and they can do this! I suggest complying with it as soon as you can, so you dont have further delays.

Just posted this through online banking:

FAO Jenny Gordon / E. Ewell

With the regard to your request for identification for the DSIR, i believe my signature in my previous letter should be enough for the DSIR request. Also the documents you asked for(Identification - statements) i believe to be delay tatic and as such will be reporting this incident to the OFT. Also i would like to point out that the address you should be sending the documents to is the one that is reqistered with egg and is were egg send my statements.

My letter dated the 8 May asking for DSIR still stands and from today you have left 30 days to comply with my request and counting.....

Also the letter you sent mentions a form to fill in, there was no form provided (Another delay tatic?) nor do i believe i need to fill in a form.

Please accept this secure message as proof of who i am and that the requested for the DSIR documentation is legitimate.

I look forward to reciving the requested DSIR documents.

Regards

Jeremy

I got this via Egg Secure message (took a screen dump as proof in case it went missing like others have reported)

I've requested that the 'Data Subject Information' is sent to your home address in the next 4-5 working days.

"There is no need to provide identification in a secure message and the system is as secure as a civilian system can be.

I trust this helps and if I can be of any further help, please let me know.

Does that help?
