You don't need to be rich to be happy. The best things in life are free. Admittedly, it is tremendously helpful to have enough to get by on without having to worry about the necessities.

| | Platinum Account Customer | Re: Dont take Desperate Measures - a warning story Unfortunately debts often turn reasonable people into desperate people.Too true. Sadly, I got sucked into the life of someone who was in this situation. Which is why I am now in debt myself. The tragedy here is I helped them save their home from repossession by going as a 'friend' with them to court, they borrowed money off me ... with the sole intention of NEVER paying it back to me, spun me lies after lies. To get it from me. Leaving me with nothing and nowhere to live in the end. They told lie after lie to their relatives, employers, partner, friends ... didn't care, either. They knew they'd get away with it. They just found another vulnerable person they knew it would be very easy to extort money from and callously dispense when done. Which they did.
And the worst piece of irony here? I have been left with nothing except the clothes on my back, struggling to survive on less than £100 pcm, coping with ever increasing health problems being compounded by this problem I can never tell anyone about because of threats made to me by the husband of this wicked creature should I ever tell anyone what they'd done to me ie borrowed money deceitfully, never intending to pay it back. Not one jot in the world how it affected me. Vile. Utterly vile people.
But you wanna know the worst irony? These people do not live in poverty they live in a very luxurious area of the country, and have plenty of money in their bank accounts. I was just the latest schmuck who fell for them. Along with a list of other victims.
If it weren't for that fact I'd be in deep trouble I'd gladly, very gladly post their names and address on CAG so others would be warned NEVER, EVER to go near or get to know them. I have no words to describe what these people truly are. What they did. Utterly evil. Wicked.
Money doesn't make you happy, but it can give you piece of mind. Knowing that you will have somewhere to live tomorrow, will not struggle too much.
I now cannot pay off my own debts because of the inhuman creatures who did this to me.
So, let this be a warning to anyone ... people DO get desperate when they are in debt, keep borrowing, hiding it from friends, family and partners ... and they will DO anything to hide it, keep themselves afloat ... they will lie, spin yarns ... I escaped from these people but one of them phoned me to gloat over what they'd done after I escaped from it. They have gone through life lying, manipulating, cheating and get away with it time after time. Very nasty people. Yet think they are a cut above everyone else simply because of where they live. Nothing but scum, though. Given they have to steal to keep their luxury lifestyle afloat. Purely because they are living a life they cannot afford to live.
TBH, I don't even think they even knew they were lying half the time as they appeared to have no conscience over it. Lying was a way of life. Whether to employers or anyone else. So, yes, debt does make people desperate. Enough to destroy another human beings life. Lifelong. They get out of debt, the victim is forced into it. For a VERY very long time, with possibly no hope of getting out of it. |

| | Classic Account Customer | Re: Dont take Desperate Measures - a warning story I dont think forgotone is over the top. Going to court is good if you have proof. I'm anotherone who got manipulated into lending money to a friend that was never returned. I have memory problems due to illness and had to have a friend of the person borrowing to step in and tell me I was being made a sucker. Luckily he told her to stop asking for money and made a note of what she owed me. I was never paid back and it hurts when you realise some friends are only in it for what they can get, maybe its in their genes to be so manipulative and anothers to be too trusting.
But if venting how hurt a persons been does help and wisen up for the future. My friend who watched over me died recently and guess what the neighbour started to ask for money again, I was able to say no this time.

Its a sad fact that there are people that will even use threats against folk or their loved ones for money, what is the ordinary person supposed to do about that?
I really hope you are getting the advice and support you need. and it may not be much but at least you know you are a decent person - not like those scum. Are there any of the debts anything that CAG could maybe help with - try and ease the pressure a bit?
Good luck to you
