| | Basic Account Customer | Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional Had an interesting afternoon.
Thought I would contact the DFT. So I called them and lodged a complaint. The woman was very understanding and took my details and said someone would call me back within 48 hours.
I put the phone down and 60 seconds later I got a call from the DVLA !
I had a long conversation with a very nice man called Gareth. We went through lots of questions and possibilities.
After 30 minutes +, we got nowhere, so he said he would take things further and dig deeper and get back to me in 48 hours or so.
Interestingly though, he said that they only keep paper work for a max of 10 years (which probably doesn't bode well for me)
Pat,
How much information does a Subject Access Request reveal though ? |

| Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional It is possible that you have 2 records, this is not unheard of. If you mislaid a licence and then applied for a new one with a slight difference in the details (e.g. a second initial on one of the applications) you would show up on the system as someone else, thereby creating two distinct records. Were there any spelling mistakes on your licence? Was the date of birth correct? any of these things can change your driver number. Worth thinking about. |

| Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional We have gone through the "two records" scenario already.
Had a phone call today. They said that they have not found anything so far, but they are going to post out to me a "questionnaire" to fill in and return to help their investigations |

| Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional Don't send recorded, it means bugger all and they still loose just as many of these. You shouldsend it "Registered" thenat least if it is lost you are covered for the monitary value of replacing whatever it was. |

| Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional No its not worth the risk.Send Special delivery. Its more expensive but guaranteed next day and is instantly checkable by track and trace-unlike RD.All you have to worry about is that DVLA dont lose it !!
One other thing I thought of.
What about ex insurance companies ?
In the old days-you had to show your licence and they took copies of it.
Insurance companies DO keep data for much longer than the 6.
you could Subject Access Request one of them.
A data protection request is not covered by limitation within itself.
It would just be a case of talking to some of the ones you have been with to work out if you had any prospects.

| | Classic Account Customer | Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional any update on this?
I have the same problem with my hgv, which has come to 'retake your test and dont bother us again' from DVLA.
They dont care about what you have to go through or what it costs you, they will never admit a mistake, or genuinely help you to resolve a problem like this. they will ask for something, and when you provide it, it will be dismissed.
I have no faith whatsoever in any agency or dept that has anything to do with the government! |

If so, are there any tacho records you could obtain? That should be pretty strong evidence in your favour - although you may need to shout at them a little more.... |

| Re: I say full, DVLA say provisional How are you getting on? I have similar problem:
I was involved in an accident Thursday (not my fault), I then contacted my insurance company, gave them all the accident details and was put through to another division, help hire who again took all my details, they went to to check licence details. To my utter shock & disbelief, the lady at the DVLA said that I was only on a provisional licence & gave me another number to call - the enquiry line. Called the enquiry line and the lady there said that they had never received my full application and I was still on a provisional licence. I am utterly shocked by this. The lady said I would have received a letter six months after my test pass explaining that I hadn't applied for my licence. I never received this letter, but that is probably due to the fact I had applied for my licence.
I then worriedly embarked on delving through all my paperwork, and found a letter from the DVLA dated one month after my practical test. The letter from DVLA says thank you for your recent application / correspondence which I have to return to you. Please sign the D750 form. Please supply photocopy of your passport that has been signed.
I have a copy of the signed and dated passport photo I then sent to DVLA.
Therefore, they must have received my initial application form, to then write to me requiring additional information.
I am now extremley concerned and worried about this, I have wrote to DVLA explaining all this. Item was delivered today - checked on Royal Mail.
I have always taken out insurance on my vehicles. |
