Default FPN received without the payment slip?

I've received a notice on my car which is in a plastic bag which states it is a FPN from the metroplitan police but only contains an information sheet called Vehicle Notification and Taxation Offences but does not contain any other information at all so I'm not sure if i have a fine to pay or not.

I went to change over the tax disc on my car today but realised that I've had the old tax disc on my car that expired in August last year on my car. I think I must have thrown the new one away by accident and somehow haven't noticed that I've had the wrong tax disc on for the last 6 months. The car has been taxed the whole time though. Anyway, I do understand why I've been given the fine but am not sure who or how much to pay as I didn't recieve anything else in the plastic. Any advice on what to do or who to call about this would be appreciated.

Silver-fern there is no fine to pay on this ticket at this time, it is a form that the Police can use to tell you that they are reporting the offence of no VEL to the DVLA. If you have tax but it is not displayed then the DVLA will have a record of this. There is an offence however of failing to display a valid tax disc but as you have tax they might not bother.

Thanks for your reply. I've just found my current tax disc and have placed it on the window of the car along with my new tax disc which starts from tomorrow. I still can't believe that I bought tax for my car for the last 6 months but forgot to put the new disc on the car!! I'm suprised I haven't been fined before now.
So do you think the DVLA will fine me if the police have notified them? I called the DVLA myself when I got the notice but they didn't seem know anything at all and could just tell me that my car was currently taxed. What's the chance of being fined and how much will it be if I am fined?

All offences of failing to display a vehicle excise licence and using or keeping a vehicle without an excise licence will be reported on excise offence report form CLE 2/8. It is as it says, the form is only to notify them, i doubt if you will get fined it is very unlikely. DVLA are only interested in the people that dont have tax. In your case your VEL could easily have fell onthe floor
