No, if the car is not going to be taxed between the date it runs out and and the date you renew it then it needs to be kept off the road and not used.

Don't risk the chance of a heavy fine or even worse the crushing of your car, If by chance you can-not tax your car, fill in a sorn appilcation, this can be done on line, and just don't use it untill it is taxed, remember you will have to unsorn the car at time of taxing it.....you are allowed to tax the car 15 days before the tax runs out, but aren't allowed to drive around for three days untaxed.....

Taxing it will automatically "unsorn" it

This is a DVLA offence and if you do not tax it the DVLA automatically send out an £80 fine after 14 days to the registered keeper. If you are stopped by the Police driving with the tax out of date they can issue you with a fixed pen fine and also report it to the DVLA who in turn can also fine you. Just because your car is off road doesnt mean that the DVLA wont fine you after 14 days

As long as you keep it off the road and tax it on the 3rd of March, you don't have to worry about filling in a SORN application. The DVLA will not issue a SORN fine until at least 14 days after the previous tax disc expires. We're only talking three days here over a weekend. You'll be fine.

Many thanks for all your replies...I think I might borrow some money from my son until the monday, as usually I am needed as a taxi service for my daughter at weekends, which I dont mind, we all help each other, I wont risk getting fined dont worry! If the exhaust hadn't dropped off last weekend, I would have saved the money on time...the joys of motoring!
thanks again.
