Default Road tax ???

Hi there to everyone this is my first post. I am trying to figure what the dvla are doing to me. I purchased road tax online all went smooth with that i thought took a couple of days to arrive no problem. Today i get a letter from the dvla claiming that i did not display a proper road tax disc and they want 60 pounds on top of the road tax i have paid for which dates back to before i got hit with this starts Jan 08. I got the road tax on the 5th of last month and the ticket was issued on the 7th last month the road tax disc arrived on the 8th. It feels like the DVLA have sent someone up to give me a ticket because they knew my car had no valid disc because they had it. It,s like being caught in a mousetrap with no way out you lose no matter what. Anyone any suggestions or do i have to pay them this ridicoulous fine

Hi, Roadkill.

Green and Mean has replied in your other thread............

From the DVLA online taxation service questions page...

Q. I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?

A. It is an offence to use a vehicle on a public road without displaying a valid tax disc.

Looks like you will have to pay it.

Regards.

Scott.

Never heard of a Statutory Off Road Notice (...SORN)??...

There is an assumption that if the DVLA does NOT receive such notice from someone, then when it comes around to re-new a car's Road Tax, the car MUST have been on a Public Highway from since the last time the Road Tax expired + thus the intervening period becomes immediately repayable!

It is a public car park and the road tax was paid from Jan08 so the back tax was paid it run out on dec07 . I forgot about it that,s all. The fact remains they knew my car sitting without road tax and informed the local police to give me a ticket easy money. I wasn,t sent a reminder

then it would seem as though they have got you fair and square, i appreciate that you disagree but if the car tax expired and the car was on public highway without road tax there is very little you can do , thats as far as i know anyway, i will happily be proven wrong though

U are extremely lucky roadkill.

They would have been quite within their rights to have had your car crushed + removed.
U would have been sent the bill for the cost of this action + also one for any Road Tax that was outstanding at the time!...

Next time remember to fill out a SORN eh?!...

No point getting a sorn because it is still on a public highway which sorn,s do not cover it has to be on private land. Sill think the dvla and police were acting like fascists. Thought we got rid of them back in 45 seems they are coming back thru the back door with actions like these ie you have no private property unless we say you have. Road pricing is another example of fascism big brother whatever you want to call it. Are we going to accept this and see the destruction of our personal freedom to travel when and where we like without prejudice. Where is the line drawn. It seems to me that we are having circles drawn round us all law by law and if we even take one step over that line they will have you. Here,s a couple of examples car recorded on a double yellow line for 20 seconds 30 pound fine. Car recorded doing 30.3 mph in a 30 zone 60 pound fine and 3 points. Car recorded undertaking on a motorway 9 points

I find itvery hard to believe that someone got a fixed penalty for speeding for doing 30.3mph in a 30. Perhaps you'd like to share the evidence of your example with us?
