Default DVLA Incompetance

I recently tryed to move my cherished no plate from one car to the other.
What a nightmare, the staff at the call centre are absolutly incompetant.
The tax on the donor car had been sent back for refund, ( which I was informed by said staff was not a problem) I then merrily set about moving details over ( a nightmare in itself) this whole process has taken 6 weeks, wherby the gent who has bought my old car has been unable to do anything with it.
I have now been informed by the DVLA that I must re tax the old car to change number plates, not only will this cost me £99, but I have to re-insure it also ( to get the tax) AND as there has been a break in between the SORN and new taxing, I will have to take it to a local office for inspection!!!!! ( meaning taking a day off work)
All this along with the £80 charge for changing the no plate!
If the number plate didnt mean so much to me sentimentally I would just loose the plate!
All this due to the complete incompetance of their call centre staff...and the fact that you cannot download a V317 from the site.
I am now majorly out of pocket, with no apology from the DVLA... just wanted a rant!

Having transferred plates since 1972, it has ALWAYS been a requirement that BOTH donor and recipient vehicles must be taxed and with MoT if required. All the leaflets from the CN dept at DVLA state this, as does the forms. If someone suggested that you didn't need it, not only were they wrong, they can;t read their own guidance. Unfortunately, as we often find, incompetence abounds, and you should have been guided by the documentation, not what some (probably Capita employee) thought.

If you were given incorrect advice I would suggest that you start the formal DVLA complaints procedure.

Just an update, I was phoned at 8.30 this morning by the DVLA apolgising profusly, I then had a call at 10 am again apologising and offering to turn the application around in 3 days!
I dont normally moan about poor service, but in this case it has worked...Hooray!
Wont count my chickens!
