Default Who are these people

My wife keeps getting telephone calls from a company in Preston asking to speak to me on a "business matter", now i dont use the phone, (actually a genuine phobia) and have requested that all DCA's (if thats who they indeed are) put everything in writing. She has repeatedly asked them to stop calling but they refuse to do so.

When asked who they were, initially they said that they could not give out this information due to the data protection act but when pressed admit that it is their company policy.

As we dont know who they are we cannot send the harrassment letter from the file.

Does anyone know who these people are, i tried getting a friend to call the number but they were very cagey wanting to know everything about him first.

Any help would be appreciated

David

Preston + NOT listening/numerous calls = RMA/NCO.

Gee these are nice people to deal with..... NOT.
They completely ignore anything you write to them, repeatedly phone you and harress you.

I was getting upwards of 5 calls a day for 6 weeks until I spoke to BT and they changed my number.

I'm currently working with Trading Standards regarding thier "business" practices.

Whatever you do DON'T call them !!!
You'll get a better response beating your head against a brick wall.
They disregard ALL of the OFT's Guideleines for Debt collection, CCA 74 requests and everything else.
All they want is money and they don't care how they get it either.

I must admit I'm slightly surprised to say I haven't received a letter saying we need your new number, yet.
I suppose they don't have a computer template for that one

Curly

Have you got an address for them so that David can write to them to ask them to desist from the phone calls and put all future correspondence in writing.

He could also, in the same letter, threaten them with a harrassment charge should they continue.

PPman, yes I have, but it doesn't make a blind bit if difference as they ignore EVERYTHING !!!

NCO Europe Ltd. Old Docks House, Watery Lane, Preston, England PR2 1AU

RMA, PO Box 175, Preston, PR2 1GN

The addresses seem different, but they are the SAME company.
Good luck with these "nice people"

My advice send then the DON'T call letter ad log EVERYTHING.
Then it's time to call TS.
I found them excellent to deal with and completely non-judgemental.

All I can suggest is that you write to NCO/RMA requesting that they inform you, in writing, of the reason why they are chasing you and I would also send your letters by recorded delivery.

The reason for this is that if, as Curly says, they ignore everthing sent to them if you have proof of posting and copies of the letters should you ever be asked to provide details as to why the issue is outstanding you will be able to provide it.

Also maybe do as Curly has and report them to trading standards or the body that oversees the DCA's.

Good luck

Could I also recommend BT's choose to refuse service, where for a small fee of about £3 per month you can bar up to 10 telephone numbers, the caller receives a message saying "sorry this caller will not accept your call", I use it, admittedly not often as we are ex directory, ex voters roll, ex everything really! However occasionally firms who use random dialing get through to us, their numbers are promptly stored and it stops them ringing again - well worth the money

I must admit I did think about Choose to refuse, but I found that these "people" use so many different numbers that it would be over the 10 number limit.
Still it is worth a try and if you speak to BT harressment peope they will offer this service FREE for a month.
Hopefully this will be enough to stop these people.

Also, it could be Legal & Trade, they are in Preston and used the exact "business matter" phrase with me several times when asking for Mrs Hawk, they also sometimes announce themselves as "Prestons", which of course is not their title, I too would recommend not calling these people, they will eventually write and identify themselves at which point bang out a CCA request.
