Default Defaulted then satisfied…How can I remove from my credit file?

Hi all,

I recently got a copy of my credit file and there is a number of old accounts 2, 3 and 4 years old that were defaulted on but I later paid and are now marked at satisfied.

Is there any way I can now get these removed from my credit file so it will be better shape if I ever apply for credit in the future?

A default will stay on your credit reference file for six years from when it was applied. There is no way to remove it, but it will look more favourable to lenders if you have satisfied it

You can in fact stop the CRA,s from processing your information automatically, in effect stopping anyone seeing what is there.

If I can find the info I will post it for you.

Also there is no right to keep these records for 6 years in law, it is purely an industry standard.

Try this thread.

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...ference+Agency

If you go to 'search' on the tool bar at the top of this thread and put in 'Credit Reference Agency' you will find more on the same subject.

Does that only work with satisfied defaults, or say, could you take this approach to defaults that are currently being paid off?

You could take the same approach to defaults currently being paid off. The approach is relevant no matter how the default came about - if it has not been properly applied (they rarely are) then you can have it removed.

I have started the process of trying to sort out these defaults but seem to have been shot down at the first hurdle.

I have started a new thread with the results and it can be viewed at the link below.

If you are up to the arguments, you can force the credit ref agency to remove the default if it is no longer being maintained by anyone, i.e. satisfied.

There is no law to state they can keep your info for 6 years, it is an agreed industry standard but if you push hard enough the agency will remove as there is nothing to back them up.

Don't let them fob you off by saying they only keep info sent to them by others, they are registered as Data Controllers so any info they keep on their files they have to answer for.

That sounds completly logical to me but how would stick it to them in a way that is going to actually work?
