Unhappy capquest & littlewoods finance

I have sent Capquest my letter (copied from CAG) notifyling them I want proof etc....They have written back...well twice in the same day, one letter saying thankyou very much , account on hold for 28 days etc. the other with a letter attached from Littlewoods Finance (this looks a bit home made!) stating the debt is now owed to capquest. I then get a letter this week saying 'to help me out' there is a new process that I can pay £259.02 which is 75% less than the debt they say I owe and they will list on my credit file the debt is 'short settled'. The £259.02 is less than the £600.00 I owe Littlewoods; so if what they are saying is true I'll do it, but I've just not heard of this term 'short settled. Have you ?

I haven't heard the term 'short settled' but I do know it's common for them to give you the chance to pay a percentage of the debt to clear it.

I was asked by wescot if I could afford to pay £1,400 for a debt of £1,700. Of course when I said I didn't have a spare £1,400 they turned nasty then passed the debt to a new DCA.

Short settlements are fairly common practice, particularly with old debt.

It will clear your arrears but I'd always check with the collection agency involved that any defaults registered against you would show as fully settled rather than partially settled. You don't want to pay a settlement amount that gets the collectors off your back but doesn't repair your credit rating.

Sorry to jump in here but I was under the impression that if a debt had been been bought by a dca and it was in dispute it couldn't be passed on to another dca.

thank you, I will write back querying the latest letter about the debt being 'satisfied' rather than 'short settled'.

i would personally write back to them and say the account is in dispute, ask why is has then been passed over?

sounds like they are passing the buck and cant substantiate the request.

just my opinion though.

Re: capquest & littlewoods finance

Hi i keep getting letters regarding debt's that supposedlly owed by myself from capquest, i know i have never entered an agreement with littlewoods or any company owned by litlewoods
the debt as they say is £370.00 from 2001,
they keep sending letters which say there still endeavouring to obtain information from littlewoods finance company
no suprises there, is that maybe becasue there is none!!

now i told them that it is not my debt they said maybe somebody fraudulently used my details etc: and that i should contact the police and report it
i said no you do that, and tell your client littlewoods to take me to court and i'll prove it

they said no

so i'm now sending them a letter stating how they are in breach of the prescription and limitation (scotland) act 1973 part 1 section 6

it would now if it were mine be statute barred

becasue i'm tired of the continuous mail saying were trying to get the information from littlewoods

can and would anybody care to comment on my or there own dealings with this capquest and littlewoods?

Hi,

no agreement = no enforcable debt, Full stop. If you are being chased by the original creditor or a DCA make a complaint to trading standards

kind regards,
shane
