cause I do not know who x,y and z is. I was very ill at the time and vaguely remember seeing a letter from one of those three and if so it might be for some small debt or something which I have completely forgotten about.

Let them contact you first. But please please do not ring any of them. Have a read on the DCAs forum on here. You will learn an awful lot. Its a possibility you do not owe them anything. Trust the advice the guys are giving you on here. Have they tried to ring you themselves. Do you have any letters from them from recently.

If you do happen to answer the phone to any of the DCAs please do not acknowledge the debt they say they have. And you will only communicate in writing to them. Do not write to them first either. I am going through a situation with a couple of DCAs. So not totally green to this. As are many many others on here.

in relation about letters that is why I feel should call just so if one did write can get reference number, address and send a letter to them. Cause might of had a letter but letter either got destory by dog or last month when I was still very ill threw it in the bin (as I did with most things.) And letter might of said for example "if you do not respond by a certain date we will take legal action." You see we used to have a shop and had two armed robberies in the last couple of years and I finally crack and shut down (had a nervous breakdown from it which lasted for 8 months +) My wife who not originally from UK didn't know what to do, and also our income went to zero. My landline is now disconnected. Only just now gone off medication and sorting things now, putting house on market etc.. Writing letters to DCA / lenders to explain situation etc.. But want to make sure got everyone cause don't want for example after selling and make a fresh start, couple years later out of a blue some demand for x debt or whatever to come up. I want to put that old life behind you, when your wife has a gun pointed at you it make you have a different look on things.

Ice, sorry to hear about your troubles but I think the previous advice still stands, if you phone a DCA and ask if you owe them any money, they'll be through your credit report and onto your creditors offering their services before you know it.

If it was a final letter before action, you will get correspondence from the court and the chance to defend yourself which you can act on if it transpires.

Red face Re: telephone number for a few debt collection?

My advice to you is do not ring anyone let them contact you by POST not telephone. Try and find any old letters that you have from when you originally took out debt. I have tried to speak to creditors on phone and they treat you like dirt when in fact if you had not rang them you would not have to put up with it.
GOOD LUCK!
