Default Thames Credit Ltd

I received a letter out of the blue last week from Thames Credit Ltd advising that they had bought the interest in a debt I had with GE Capital Bank Ltd for £3200.

I contacted them today and they have informed me that it was outstanding from a loan with the Debenhams store group and the last payment on the account was in August 1995. The debt was registered at my previous address, I moved to my current house 3 years ago.

I questioned them about the outstanding amount and they said that as the debt had changed hands several times, they did not have a copy of the original agreement or any other information they could provide me. They said that, as this was the case they would settle for an offer from me to pay around £1000 which would clear the debt.

I remember having a Burtons storecard years ago, but the balance on that never exceeded £100, and I was under the impression that I had settled any outstanding amount.

Based on the lack of information they have about this debt, and the fact that 12 years have passed, do they still have a valid claim?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In short No. If they dont any information they cannot pursue you through the courts.

Ignore them and wait for them to go away.

However NEVER deal with these people by phone. They will then have the opportunity to hassle and threaten you. If necceasary you can send them a letter stating that all contact should be in writing. If they break this its harrassment.

There are various letters on the site that will give you all the ammo you need to tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine.

Chill, sit back and dont worry about it.

Sounds like they are trying it on....
After 6 years with no contact the debt is statue barred....
Plus the fact that if you sent a CCA request (theres templates on the site ) with the £1 fee,and they can't produce the CCA agreement the debt is unenforceable without a court order....
I wouldn't pay and i'd would only deal with them in writting, this way you get a paper trail and if you do decide to sent a CCA request sent it recorded delivery....
Hope this helps...check out the other threads on the forum and you will learn alot about DCA's...

This debt is statute barred and they cannot enforce it. There are letters in the templates for this.
No need to bother with CCA request it is stat bared and nothing can change that.
Keep an eye on your CRA files as they may try to reinstate it on there.
