Default letter from solicitors even though im trying to negotiate with debt collectors

hi

i sent this letter to a debt collector

Debt investigations Ltd
P O Box 871
Liverpool
L69 2BL

27th January 2007

Dear Sir/Madam

Re: xxxxxx

I write with reference to the money which you are claiming on the above account.

I can confirm that I am unable to offer to pay the money which I owe in full. However, I can raise £1000 and I want to offer this as an ex−gratia payment in full and final settlement of the account. This offer is made on the clear understanding that, if accepted, neither you nor any associate company will take any other action to enforce or pursue this debt in any way whatsoever and that we will be released for any liability.

I also request that, if accepted, you will make an entry on a credit reference agency file relating to the above account as "satisfied" in full.

Payment can be made within 3 weeks of receiving your written agreement of this offer and method of payment.

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours faithfully

I have today had a letter from a solicitor saying that i must pay in full within 10 days. im soo angry i am trying my hardest to resolve it and debt investigations havn't entered into any sort of communiations with me. shall i write saying that i am waiting instructions from the debt collector? if this IS a scare tactic too i wonder if theres any templates for complaining t the law society.

There's a template letter for rejection of offer isn't there?

You could send them a CCA request/£1 just to see if they have the legal right to be collecting the debt? Would buy some time too...

Good luck - Dave.
