If you paid money back immediately the effect n your credit rating shouldn't be serious, was there a default or CCJ placed on your credit file due to this debt?, more detail would be helpful.

thanks for the quick reply!!
someone buggered with my bank account and i withdrew some money from an atm.it turned out that it wasnt my money so i had to pay it back!i didnt even know all this until i wanted to close my account and they wouldnt let me.finally they said they would start some investigation and i close the account.several months later i opened a new on eat a different bank and i got a love letter from wescot saying i owed the amount i had withdrawn from the atm since it wasnt mine.i had one month to pay it back!i didnt want to get into deeper trouble so i paid £50 immediately over the phone and set up a DD for the rest of the amount.it only took two payments to clear my debt.apperantly wasnt good enough cos when i went to get a contract phone in september they made me pay £200 deposit claiming i didnt past the credit check!!Thats when i thought a little black mark must still be next to my name! And its been 2.5 years!!!
appreciate ur help!!!

Experian do a one month free trial on credit reports, you need to register on their website which is Credit Expert.

You need to register card details to take part in the free trial so you must remember to cancel your membership before the end of the month.

Once you have that you can see what damage has been done, then come back with your queries and someone will be able to advise you further.
