Scott and CO Council Tax debt

Hi folks,

Got aletter from Scott and CO who are the main council tax debt collecters up here in Scotland. The debt with their fee on top is about £1423.00. It is for the current 06/07 year. I have offered to pay £75 per month towards this debt but the person I spoke to said they would have to get the council's approval for that offer...... they were wanting much more per month (approx £180.00). I told them I was self employed and could not pay anymore than the £75 pm offer. What happens if the council refuse my offer?

Can Scott and Co come round my house and sell off my furniture and goods ?

Can Scott and Co or council make me put this unsecured debt on my house as a second charge ?

Can Scott and Co freeze my bank account ?

Is £75 per month an UNreasonable offer for £1423.00 debt ?

IF council refuse my offer of £75pm what is likely to happen next ?

Hi Moody

Not sure about all your questions, but I have had quite a few dealings with Scott and Co. They definately arrest wages, had that one done, that made life very difficult. They did however agree to take £30 per month from me for a rather large debt.

I would try to stick with the £75. They haven't done anything else yet and I have been in dealings with them for years. (Council tax always seems less important than other stuff)
