Default Missed Payment Charges

I owed £29 to Grattan and £17 to La Redoute. I missed both payments - just forgot all about them. La Redoute added a 50p missed payment charge which I happily paid. Grattan added a £12 missed payment charge! I think this is excessive. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do about this? I don't mind paying a missed payment charge but am reluctant to pay £12. I have a good credit rating so don't want to risk a Court action. Any advice?

So, are you actually being chased by a DCA for these payments, then? I am no expert but ... £12 is the usual, standard late payment fee ... and you've only missed one payment? At this stage, I don't honestly think there would be court action over one missed payment.

Think for anyone to help you in more depth, you'll need to give more information.

If you're (a) polite and apologetic, and (b) make all your subsequent payments on time then you can request they reconsider the late charge. If you have a history of being 'nice' they will probably do that. How late was the missed payment?

Going off with all barrels blazing is unlikely to make them reconsider.

I was about three weeks late with the payments. Have always paid on time. When I say I owed them £29, that was the total amount outstanding, which I paid in full, not the payment they were actually requesting. I have always paid on time before - this was the first time I had ever missed a payment - as I said, I just forgot! Haven't heard from them for a while, so hopefully, they will forget it, though I doubt that.
