Default Question re credit blacklisting

Hey all

So they have finally caught up with me I'll detail that in another thread later.

Question for now though:

I know that bed debts are supposed to blacklist a person and not the property they live in (Back in parents house now) but is this actually the case ?

My Mom worked for a bank a few years back and says that officially it's person+debts=blacklisting but unofficially it's also property+debts=blacklisti ng.

Anyone shed any light on this ?

My Mom's a bit worried about possibly never getting credit if they need it in the future

Hi,

As far as I know, you can inform the CRAs that you have no financial link with people at the same address.

If your parents were to get hold of their credit records and look for any links between you and them, they should be able to get those links removed.

I had to do this after my divorce as my ex-wife and I were still linked at the same address even tho i'd moved.

I hope I'm right . You could hold on a little while and see what others have to suggest.

HI,

You're right, a few years back (actually quite a lot of years back) it was possible to do this but now there has to be an explicit financial link between two people. Just having the same surname isn't enough.

You will only be linked with somebody if you apply for a credit product with them as a joint application.

I sent letters of financial disassociation with my son to the CRAs just to be on the safe side.

They were hauled over the coals by the information commissioner a decade ago for just using address & surname (one of the few time they have achieved anything) so things should be ok now.

If you are refused credit on the basis of some-one else's credit history (other than someone you have a joint account with) then the CRA is in trouble.
