Council Tax Decrees

I had correspondence from a Sheriff Officer last year relating to an unpaid council tax debt. They advised me they had received a summary warrant from the Court to collect this debt.

My understanding is that you, as the debtor, should be able to attend to defend your case but this appears not to be the case relating to Council Tax and parking fines. Is this correct? If so, why is that?

I am just curious as I have been reading another thread relating to a summary warrant and this was the first he had heard of it years later.

Hiya,
In Scotland local governemts can apply for a summary warrant if no arrangement or payment is made after the demand for payment (normally one for installment them another 14 days when the years amount is due and then a summary warrant is normally granted at this stage)

There is no hearing for these summary warrants for unpaid council tax and normally 10% is added at this stage. (and also for hrmc)

I know your title says CT decree but a decree is different.
