Default Small query on where I stand

Okay not a hundred percent sure on whats going on here but thought I would ask anyways.

I got a copy of my credit report as I am looking at going for a mortgage. I was shocked to see that there was an outstanding debt for Littlewoods on this.

I had two accounts with Littlewoods, one when I first turned 18 and lived with my parents then closed it, and then the second that I had when I moved in with my ex fiance. The second was opened in 2000/01-ish and as far as I was aware this was closed when we split up in 2004. We had moved address once during the time the second account was opened and Littlewoods had not updated the address change, only discovered this by our old neighbors handing down some mail for me (we had paid for our mail to be redirected for 3 months and this letter arrived 6/7 months after we had). Should have noticed before but moving is hectic.

The last items I bought from the catalogue in 2003 would have been a new Iron and Hoover because our ones had stopped working. I also think I bought a box set of dvds for my exes Christmas but I can't be sure it was through Littlewoods. I also cannot remember if they were paid normally or put on one of their silly buy now pay September next year deals.

My ex fiance and I split up in January 2004, however had to stay at the address until March 2004 due to giving notice on the rented flat. My ex decided that the best way to cope during this time was to leave everything up to me and bury his head in the sand. It was up to me to close accounts, change addresses for me and pack everything up and sort out things (such as sky etc) that I was taking with me to my dads. Not a great time for me. Now I had a list of places to call with change of address and Littlewoods were my only catalogue so would have been contacted by phone and I do recall speaking to them because I stressed the hassle I had had when previously moving house.

Anyways, I haven't heard from them since I spoke to them in March 2004 - I moved middle of that month. I have been at my dads address since then, I work for the public sector, I'm on the electoral roll and never made it a secret where I live. I have also gotten credit for mobile phone contracts and the such like whilst living here. Yet they haven't contacted me in any shape or form.

The debt on the credit file states its outstanding but has been 'satisfied' and I am worried it has been sold on to a debt collection agency (no doubt c*apquest) who will start to hound me or make it difficult when applying for mortgages. I'm sure I closed the account/ and paid it off, but I only keep paperwork for around three years so have no account numbers and I moved house nearly 4 and a half years ago.

a) Do I wait and see or is there something I can do now?
b) How can a company legally get away with sitting on something like this for nearly four and a half years before deciding to sell it or chase it up.
c) If they do contact me how do I find out I owe it or if its a mix up? ¬.¬

Obviously if its an oversight on my part then fair do's but if its not my debt then....

I contacted the Citizens Advice Beaureu (sp?) and the posh lady I spoke to there didn't get what I was after. Kept telling me that she doubted they would chase me after so long. I don't believe this for a second though

Help??
