Default Faulty Laptop bought from Currys advice needed please

Hiya all, I purchased a laptop from Currys for £520 at the beginning of Feb, so you can see this is only a few days old. From about day 5 of having it, it turns itself off for no reason at all and displays a pale blue screen the it takes me 5 or so times to re-boot the machine to get it to work again. Ive had a laptop for years and none have ever done this so in my opinion it is faulty. The laptop gives no warning so whatever you are doing at the time you lose.

I went into the store today and was met by a bristley store manager who was not willing to do anything at all as of course when i turned on the laptop it did not display this fault. I spoke to their Customer Services whilst instore and was told the same.

Strange though as at the same time another customer was returning a faulty telephone, this was not tested but merely taken out of its box and looked at, the customer was then given her £20 or so refund. I queried this to the manager that because my item was more expensive that was why the reluctance in giving me a refund, he denied this.

I have now contacted my local trading standards office who have sent me a letter via mail to copy and send recorded to the store stating that sale of goods act etc and that I want my money back, is there anything further that I can do?

Oh and Currys staff are the rudest that I have ever encountered he had his back up as soon as I said I wanted my money back.

Doesnt sound like a hardware fault to me - more likely software, which probably would not be covered. Have you tried running clean up scans on the laptop?

With regards the telephone, there will be two reasons she got a more immediate refund:

- Whatever he says, the cheapness of the item is a factor. But you can hardly blame a company for checking more expensive returns more thoroughly, as they stand to lose more.

- A laptop is considerably easier to test than a telephone in a store.

i'd go with that.
sounds more like a trojan activity, thats been let to eat its way throughthe system.

to clear this up
go on to the panda online scanner []Panda Software. Protection against viruses, Spyware, Spam and other Internet threats
let it do its bit
and see what it says.

if it gives a clean bill of health, then printout the report, & go back to the shop, show them it, and BE NICE, ask them if they could please check over the operating system as it keeps crashing.

if you can note down the blue-screen-of-death number.
then a search engine will tell you what is most prob faulty.

pop up on the PC support forum
i'll watch there

Might want to disable the option to automatically restart windows on a fatal error, to give you time to get the blue screen message. For some reason my mind has gone completely blank on where that option is! dx100, you may be able to remember?

And...theres a PC support forum??? :S
