Well they are wrong - am I right to assume that you bought it just over a year ago?

If so, then are you reasonably expected to buy a new 42" plazma screen tv every 13 months? Of course not, and no court in the land would uphold that view (which by proxy is the view that Curry's seeminly have).

Have a read of this: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/cag.php

about extended warranties.

You will get a new tv - it's the law (SOGAS Act - in the library).

Under the sales of goods act, they are in breech of contract as it was not durable (did not last for a reasonable amount of time).
Before they issue you with a repair or replacment at there discression, companys like to see if they can pull a fast one, and check to see if it is a manufactering issue, or if it is accidental damage, customer misuse etc.
As it is over 6 months, it is for you to prove and therfore (as far as I am aware) you have to pay for the engineer. However get currys to agree, that if it turns out to be a manufactering fault that they will refund you the amount it cost you, as they requested this.
If it turns out to be a manufactering fault, you are entiltiled to a working product whether they repair it or replace it, or alternativly offer a partial refund, which is usually to the cost of you getting it repaired or replaced yourself.

Read this link for the SOGA facts in a nice eaily readable sheet:

letter recieved today took thier time but at least they replied.

dear sir
thankyou for your letter, please accept my apologies for the delay with this reply. I note your comments regarding your techwood plasma television.
Although this product is now outside the manufacturer warranty, we may be able to consider a contribution towards any repairs that need to be carried out.
As techwood is one of our own brand products to obtain service you will need to contact the tech guys on 0870 6070973. Arrangements will be made for an engineer to visit your home and examine the unit. This servicewill cost £120.00 plus any parts that may be required. If afault is present this office upon receipt of substantiation will refund any payments made. You will need to send this to the above address,

Please note that we will only consider claims in cases of genuine mechanical failure and not for fair wear and tear or accidental damage

yours sincerely

Yeah! Nothing good will about it

Well done.

Have they given you information as to what was repaired. Your entitled to know as if the same part goes again then you can again make a claim The work & any replacement parts must also carry a warranty & are subject to the SOGA

Thumbs up Re: cant help wont help **SORTED**

Hi, just read your problems. I have managed to get a full refund for the repair of my Techwood TWP4210 which is 2 years old and not covered by any extended warranty. Had all the same problems as you but got very legal with them, pointing at that I do not expect a 'manufacturing defect' within 2 years. One of their guys even suggested that they would expect 5 years without a defect!!! They said I would have to prove it was a manufacturing defect. Me being an engineer you would think that was simple, but no, it needs to be an independant engineer. So what better than to pay their engineer to do the check. Upon visit to my house their 'engineer' said he did not repair anything and all he could do was exchange my media box (where I already knew the fault was 3 dry joints on the PSU). BEFORE paying I got the 'engineer' to sign a letter to say that their was a fault with the media box and that he had replaced it. A simple letter to them then asked for my money back re-stating all the above - and they sent me a cheque for £334.17.

hi there folks
well my tv started going all wonky just the other week more or less the same problem as before. and i thought oh no i,m going to have to go through all the rigmarol with curry,s again writing letters and phoning them and so forth. but my wife came up with an idea to just phone the tech guy,s instead of curry,s so i gave it a go and guess what they couldn,t have helped me enough they were out to fix my tv the very next day free of charge of course. i haven,t had a problem with it since
although the tech guy said because it was the same problem they were obliged to fix it he also said that i had been very unlucky that it had happened to the board they had already replaced and it shouldn,t happen again and if it did i was just to phone them
