Exclamation Currys - Kodack digital camera & photo printer dock package - 'whatever happens'

Hi

I just wanted to warn anyone who is thinking of purchasing from Currys an all in 1 package of a digital camera & photo printer dock to make sure that they specifically ask for SEPARATE 'whatever happens' repair cover for each item (ie 2 'whatever happens' policies) even if the camera and printer dock come as a single package in 1 box.

I have recently had to take my digital camera back to Currys as it was faulty. They sent away the camera and it came back not requiring repair, so it suggested the printer was at fault, however I was then informed by the 'whatever happens' team that the printer was NOT covered! I argued that I had bought the package as 1 item, as sold. They commented that it was just the camera that had cover.

Taking the complaint up with Currys instore they sent away the printer anyway and it came back unrepaired. They then found another printer from the display and put my camera onto the dock. Although the printer was not the same as the one I had purchased it fitted and worked, proving it was the printer that was faulty not the camera.

The Currys store manager took the complaint to head office of 'whatever happens' but they couldnt do anything either as it was a fault of the Currys sales system. Which coincidentally has changed and it used to 'flag up' separate cover for each individual item but now, apparantly, just asks once per package.

Currys were very apologetic and as I am still paying for the old camera and printer they exchanged it for 2 separate ones and made sure they were still covered. If another problem arises in the future they will be happy to support thr issues again. They are making the Currys head office aware of the matter and have advised me to make a formal written complaint to back them up which I am doing so.

I just wanted to warn readers of this matter so they can avoid hassle and make sure their new purchases are fully covered and take up any issues on past purchases if necessary.

Best wishes.

If you read the documentation on your policy it is crystal clear what is and isn't covered, IME this happens a lot with PC packages with the base unit being covered and printers, tfts etc not.

But how is it put across by the sales people? I remember getting my computer from PC world (the whole package - printer monitor etc) and was specifically told that each one would be covered by the policy.

The point is to always check documentation and NEVER rely on what is said unless it is written down (and preferably signed).

unfortunatly in my experiance the sales staff just want to push a sale rather than try and explain that it doesnt cover both.

it may be worth a letter explaining that you were told it covered the item and as the item was in one box then it is a reasonably assumption to assume both were covered that sometimes wins through

did you ask the sales staff what was covered? i can guess the reply "everything" at which point point that out as well.

seen a couple of customers win free repairs/coverplan extensions/vouchers with these tatics
