Default JVC being awkward!!!!!

Hi people, hoping for some advise here.

On the 5/07 I bought a JVC Hifi from a computer fare, the unit was bought "NEW" and a receipt was given... Not 2 months had passed when the CD/DVD selector went tits up closely followed by the display matrix So I went about contacting the company I bought it off and to cut a long one short, they are no longer trading.... So off to the local JVC store I went. After having a very unhelpful discussion with them telling me because I didn't purchase from them that they were not in a position to offer any service and promptly referred me to JVC direct which I did. Sometime passed when I had a reply from JVC telling me that the unit on their database is a refurb and as such I have no entitlement to service and basically sod off. A return letter went back to them saying that the hifi was bought as a NEW unit as stated on the receipt the company I bought it from has ceased trading and could they possibly work something out for me... again sometime passed and the next letter said see your local JVC retailer and they would sort it out neglecting to say that they would want to charge me and not free on warranty as id hoped I went back and told them what JVC direct had said and again they said sorry we cant help you, we cant do ANY repairs on any unit that wasn't purchased from us?

I got so fed-up of being pushed from pillar to post I gave up for a while, but I'm so bloody annoyed I think ill continue to seek a warranty repair for the hifi I bought in good faith.

What the hell should I do people?

Thanks Dusty

There's not a lot you can do. In situations such as these it is the retailer who you take it up with, but as you have said they are no longer trading so there really aren't any options left. I'm fairly sure what JVC are telling you are accurate about it being a refurb - there is no reason for them to lie to you, but it is probably something you would expect from some fly-by-night company trading at a Computer Fair/Market/Boot Sale etc - if you buy from these type of places then really you have to accept a certain element of risk.

Did you pay on your credit card? If so, you may have some hope left, if not then I think you're stuck. Not the answer you wanted to hear.

i wonder why they are no longer trading.
things are cheap for a reason.

always buy from a reputable dealer and if something is cheap think- why?

i did a quick search on an HD TV we where looking at and found it nearly £200 with dixons online than anywhere else.

JVC are quite right not to honour the warranty as it is a refurb- it is down to the company that refurbished it.

there are a lot of companies doing this, just look on ebay for most of them!!

moral of the story - do your homework first!!

In that case then, if you're sure the company is no longer trading, I would probably say that yes, you are "shafted".

Sorry.
